There are about 80 universities and 300 'grandes écoles' (engineering and business high schools) in France. Here are the most important resources to find your way in the French higher education system and enjoy your student's life in France.
Campus France
Everything you need to know about why, what, where and how studying in France, by the government agency Campus France, in French, English, Spanish and more than ten other languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian... Here, you can understand how the French higher education system is organised, choose a programme, apply for admission, obtain your student visa, learn more about scholarships and, of course, get practical information about living in France as a student (housing, food, banking, health, jobs, culture, etc.).

Studying in France
This foreign student's guide is another excellent resource for getting ready to study and live in France. Available both in English and French, this guide is published by Egide, a French agency for international mobility (which is a partner of Campus France). Compared to the Campus France's website, perhaps this one gives more background information about the French society, and more practical resources about day-to-day living.

Recognition of Diplomas
The official body in charge of recognising foreign diplomas in France is the ENIC-NARIC France, which is the French part of the European Network of Information Centres and National Academic Recognition Information Centres. Information, forms and contact persons are given there (in French). But recognition of diplomas is a complex matter and it could be a good idea to take also a look at the following resources. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gives an interesting approach to the subject from both academic and professional angles, with a number of further, specialised links. There is also an introduction that is worth reading at the website of the Ministry of National Education, especially in the European context. Both those introductions are in French.
