INRA Call for Research Projects

Logo The French National Institute for Agricultural Research is launching a call for proposals of research projects for scientists who work in the areas of food, environment and agriculture. Deadline for application: 15 November 2007.

The French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) is a state research organisation, under the supervision of the ministries in charge of research and agriculture.

The research carried out by INRA is in close interaction with society and is concerned with ensuring the public good. Research programmes thus develop both as a result of questions arising from the evolution of scientific knowledge and in response to the demands of society in the area of the life sciences, food and nutrition, agriculture and the environment.

Their aim is to advance knowledge, produce innovations to serve society and provide expert opinions to inform decision-making or construct standards.

INRA wants to become more attractive and offer a motivating work environment to the most talented researchers. The ambition to recruit European collaborators is thus a major priority.

Guest Scientists

This annual and open call will make it possible to select proposals which should start at the beginning of 2008. These projects will be led by the invited researchers within the best INRA units for a maximum duration of 4 years.

Significant means in the form of a "package" that represents a maximum budget allocation of 200 k€/year will be proposed to the recipients. It includes :

- From the 1st year (n) and according to the researcher's salary situation and possible reciprocity agreements, INRA will undertake to pay the salary of the invited researcher for 4 years based on the "Marie Curie" scale . Please note that the researcher must have 10 years experience at least.

- From the year (n + 1), a junior post-doctorate researcher and a doctoral student will be recruited and an annual allocation of 40K€ will be granted to cover current expenses of the research project.

Selection Criteria

The selection of the best projects will be based on 2 criteria: excellence and scientific originality.

The criteria will focus on the excellence of the host team at INRA, the excellence of the candidate, without any restriction on nationality, the quality of the scientific environment and of the conditions within the host team. Regarding both the host team and the candidate, the level of publications and the future of the doctoral students involved in the project will enable to define these criteria. The innovative nature and the originality of the proposed work will also be studied.
