France's R&D expenditures are over € 36 billion, that is to say 2.13 percent of the GDP. The R&D staff is about 350,000 people including 200,000 researchers. Nearly 10,000 PhD degrees are awarded every year. R&D is carried out by state research organisations (CNRS, INSERM, INRA...), universities and other higher education institutions, and private companies.
Ministry of Research
The France's research policy is conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (minister: Valérie Pecresse). In particular, the ministry is in charge of higher education, research, innovation, space, research training and scientific employment. It's website is in French only.
